Wendy... my Bestest Friend from High School

I get to see Wendy today!! She and I were best buds in high school and even though through the years we have lost touch few times, I have always cherished her. In high school, we spent lots of time together....spending the night at each other's houses, going to Six Flags, hanging out at the mall people watching (boys mostly!), chilling out at another friends house and watching movies or playing games. GOOD TIMES! She was even my DATE to my Senior Prom!

Wendy is a year old than me and fell madly in love with one of my classmates, Dave. He joined the Marines shortly after HS graduation and they got married during my first year in college. As a Marine's wife, staying put was NOT an option, so onward they went to the life of a serviceman and his wife. We saw each other several times over the next year or two, but somehow we lost our once unbreakable connection. I think our lives were just too different at that time and it was hard to find common ground. I was ALL about college, boys and my sorority.....she was all about married life and military type stuff. I don't think badly of either of us for that, it was just about us growing up and moving from adolescence into adulthood.

...........THEN ...............................................NOW...........................

Many years passed and we reconnected. How or why.....I can't quite remember the details, but I am certainly glad we did. Even though most of our contact is via email or messages left on blogs or myspace accounts, I know that she would be there for me in a heartbeat if I needed her to and will always be supportive of my hopes and dreams......and I for her.

With Wendy living out of state or sometimes out of country, our visits are VERY far apart and often WAY too quick, but a family emergency brought her home to TX this past week. Her dad became ill and had to have open heart surgery late last week and her grandmother (on her mom's side) who had been ill for sometime was expected to pass away. Now I can't tell you how much stress one of these events would cause someone (especially someone who is VERY close to her family like Wendy), but to have to deal with both a the same time..... I can't even imagine. Her dad made it through surgery just fine and is now home recovering, but sadly her grandma did pass over this last weekend. In spite of everything that has happened, she and her parents (they were like 2nd parents to me during HS) want to see me during her trip here. So I am on my way back to my hometown (the big Q) to spend the afternoon with my dear friend. I can't wait to give her a BIG hug and know that I get to spend some quality time with this special lady!
